Letter From Doke 15th Jan 2013

Hi All

This week's letter has some very interesting news. An exciting new live poker tournament announced, the Online Super Series is running, I look at the Enet network on Irish Eyes Poker and I look back at some live action.

My first live outing of the year, the WPT Dublin Main event, didn't really go to plan. I made a big fold on the river (with a set) having invested a good chunk of my stack already (I actually had the third best hand), and then lost most of what was left with AJ on a JJ5 board. Then when I finally found a good reshoving spot (KQs over a serial raiser), I ran into Phil Baker's aces in the big blind. I was miles ahead of the opener's range (he had shown up with 53 already in a similar spot) so it was a spot I had to take. Some days there's just nothing you can do and this felt like one of them.

I played a side event with no better luck. A combination of a rather curious structure (no antes until after the 400/800 level) and the table (a couple of livewires like George McMahon who don't consider folding a sensible option most of the time just behind) meant I decided quickly that tight was right early on. Accordingly I spent a few hours folding mainly punctuated by winning the odd pot to edge up from starting stack only to get the lot in pre with aces versus tens and losing just as it started to get interesting.

Still, I was happy enough with how I played so I go into next week's UKIPT Edinburgh buoyant and confident. Next up after that is Deauville. I'm feeling particularly confident about my first EPT in almost 2 years. I personally believe the slow structure and field composition of EPTs suit me and there is some evidence to support this. I have cashed at most EPTs I have attended and had my deepest ever run in the last one I played (in Berlin in 2011, where I also final tabled a side event).

Online has been going well. I ended 2012 and started 2013 on a high. My favourite nightly tournament these days is the 5k turbo Deepstack on Irish Eyes Cake. I won this a few days ago and I think I've final tabled it 4 times in the past few weeks. I've also been playing a bit of non holdem cash on Irish Eyes Merge. Because of the number of Americans on the site, it's a good place to play Razz and Seven Card Stud Hi Lo.

This week I have a look at the best tourneys on Irish Eyes Enet. These include a Weekly Special on Sunday (€50 buyin, €5k guaranteed), a large number of €5 rebuys every day, and a number of "Wild West" tournaments similar to those that were so popular on Entraction. These are fun tournaments as you can essentially decide how much you want to invest (and how many chips you get) so there's something for players at all bankroll levels.

Irish Eyes Poker Ideal are currently running the Online Super Series with $1,000,000 in guaranteed prizemoney. There are some really good tournaments with prizepools of up to €200,000. See the schedule and other tournaments on our new 'Doke's Hot Tournament Picks' page at http://www.irisheyesbet.com/openpage.php?pg=dokespicks where I look at a range of tournaments across the networks on Irish Eyes.

If you'd like to check these or any other tournaments out, use the Irish Eyes 'reload' bonus code 'IERELOAD' which gives a reload bonus (once per player) of 150% up to €500 (t&c's apply). The bonus is cleared in 10 steps, so if you deposit 100 euro, you will get the bonus of 150%, in this case 150euro , the bonus will be credited in 10 steps 150/10 = 15 euro. Make sure to enter the promotional code IERELOAD when you are making a deposit.

This week saw the announcement of the Irisheyesbet.com Legend's Poker Cup 2013 which will be Europe's largest ever poker tournament in terms of player numbers. With a entry fee €130 (+ €20 Registration Fee Incl Vat) and an expected prize pool of €250,000, this tournament will have 4 day 1's. Player must register and pay for all buy-ins online through Irish Eyes Bet.

Players have the option to play as many day 1's as they like and can accumulate their total stack from four starting days to progress through to Day 2. It's a unique format that caters for different players, from those who want to take one shot at a big prize pool through those that want more than one chance to make day 2 and players such as myself who think playing all the day 1's gives us a better than ever chance of actually making day 2 with a decent stack. I'm looking forward to the event which takes place in City West Hotel, Dublin, from the 23rd to 26th May. For more information and to buy-in, see http://www.irisheyesbet.com/openpage.php?pg=legendscup

It has come to my attention that there are many accounts on Irish Eyes from the old system with funds in them unclaimed. If you think you have an account but cannot think of your username, email team@irisheyespoker.ie with as much information about the account (the owner's name, possible email address used, when and where set up, address etc) and we will reply and try to sort it out.

Good luck at the tables - unless I'm at the same table :)
